Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko mourns loss of co-founder Dietrich Mateschitz
Helmut Marko, Red Bull's special advisor, has opened up about his grief following the death of Dietrich Mateschitz, co-founder of the company. Mateschitz passed away in October 2022 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer, leaving a deep impact on the Formula 1 community through his work with Red Bull and AlphaTauri/Toro Rosso.
Despite the transition of power to Oliver Mintzlaff, Marko continues to feel the loss of his friend and colleague. He and Mateschitz first worked together in 1999, and Marko has been with the F1 team since its inception in 2005. The two had a close friendship, similar to the one Marko shared with late Formula 1 legend Niki Lauda.
Marko spoke to RTL about the emptiness he feels after Mateschitz's death, noting that he used to call him after every race. Despite this, he and Mintzlaff had a productive conversation in the winter and plan to have more discussions in the near future.
