FIA President's sexist remarks not reflective of his beliefs, says governing body
The FIA, the governing body for motorsports, has stated that sexist comments attributed to its President, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, do not reflect his beliefs. The remarks, made on an archived version of his old website from 2001, stated that he does not like women who think they are smarter than men. The FIA spoke on behalf of Ben Sulayem, saying he has a strong record of promoting equality and women in sports, and that these comments do not reflect his current beliefs. The contents of the old website had been discussed among senior figures in F1, but had not been made public until The Times reported on them. This incident is just the latest in a series of controversies that have surrounded Ben Sulayem since he became FIA President in December 2021.
